Air filter ratings, known as MERV ratings, indicate what size particles a filter can capture. The higher the MERV rating for a filter, the smaller the particle size it can capture. MERV ratings range from 1 (low efficiency; minimum filtration) to 20 (highest efficiency; highest filtration).
