Microwave Filters
If you have a microwave directly over your stove, you may not know that you have microwave filters that capture the grease, smoke, and debris from cooking. Much like a range hood, microwaves can offer ventilation and air purification.
Why do you need to change your Microwave Filter?
Microwave air filters usually reside directly above the cooking surface and help capture pollutants produced by cooking. These filters are important to change because they help prevent kitchen fires and can help improve your home’s indoor air quality.
How often you change them will depend on how frequently you cook, the filter type, the manufacturer’s recommendation, and visual inspection. Some microwave filters can be washed and continue to be used, but charcoal microwave filters or microwave filters that contain carbon should be replaced every two months.
It’s always a good idea to check your microwave filters occasionally, and clean or replace them when they look too worn and dirty. Doing this will help your ventilation system stay clean and prevent grease fires.
What types of contaminants does it protect against?
Microwave grease filters help protect the ventilation system and help remove cooking smoke, and capture grease and other particles. There are even microwave charcoal filters available that are designed to help absorb odors too.
How do you find the correct Microwave Filter that I need?
Finding the right microwave filter replacement might seem daunting, but if you take the time to go through a few steps, you should be able to find a replacement one in no time. One of the first steps that you should take is to figure out how many filters you need. Some microwaves may need more than one filter.
After you’ve figured out how many filters you need, locate your microwave’s serial number. You can usually find the serial number on the inside of the microwave or underneath the microwave. If you can’t find the serial number for your microwave, you can measure your existing microwave filter or filters and look for your filter that way. If you can’t find the exact size you need, we recommend getting a size that is as close as possible to the filter you have. Once you figure out what size you need, you can move on to find the type of microwave filter that best fits your needs.
How do you install a microwave filter? Microwave hood filters are usually easy to install, but it’s always a good idea to check your owner’s manual for installation instructions.
